“No strings attached? Goddamn, you brought a tow rope.”

Inches away from his dream of a leading role, catastrophe strikes for pro dancer Oscar. A friend of a friend offers a place to crash, and Oscar is grateful for the chance to rebuild his life. And when airline pilot Roman is at home, there’s plenty of other benefits to enjoy…

The pair of them keep trying to get the steamy connection out of their system, but nothing works. Oscar only wants more—and it’s clear that Roman feels the same. If only he could admit it.

As the fleet’s youngest captain, Roman is growing tired of being Mr. Slick, partying in a new town every night. But he’s an all-or-nothing kind of guy. When he tries commitment, he always overcommits and scares off boyfriends, ending up alone.

The last thing Roman expects is exactly what he’s found in Oscar: a reason to come home.

As they chase an impossible dream, will these two free spirits break old habits… or each other’s hearts?

Slick is Book 3 of the Significant Brothers, a feel-good MM romance series. Six best friends from high school are reunited to banter—and occasionally give helpful advice—as, one by one, they each find Mr. Right. Each book can be read as a standalone story and has a guaranteed happily-ever-after ending, and no cliffhanger.

I only recently discovered Ed Davies and I am in love. In his latest Significant Brothers book we meet up with Oscar and Roman. Both world travelers and both men who work to avoid relationships with a series of meaningless hookups. I loved this book, for two men who are pickup artists they have a series of misscommunications that made me laugh. Having put off being in relationships, these two set off slowly, aside from the totally HOT scenes they had together, not wanting to push the other too hard and fast. We see their own insecurities and doubts as their feelings develop but one thing is certain, their spark is undeniable. If you enjoy light angst and a sexy good book, this one's for you. I also advise reading Ed's other books.

Liked it well enough. Just a little bit too much of the not talking to each other problem going on.

Darum geht’s:

Meine Meinung dazu gibt’s hier

I’m having the best time with E. Davies’ Significant Brothers series. Slick is Roman’s story and I loved seeing him get tamed by Oscar.

Each one of these guys’ stories is creative and interesting, low angst, and an absolute pleasure to listen to. Yes, you can definitely do them out of order and they’re all narrated by Greg Boudreaux who does a marvelous job.

Just have to say though, E. Davies writes some of the best dirty talk I’ve ever read (and audiobook fans how incredibly well Greg Boudreaux performs it!). These books are wonderful, if you’re just looking for a feel-good, nicely erotic romance, the Significant Brothers series is the way to go.

an audiobook copy of Slick was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review

My favourite in this series so far

I really liked this one. I've been waiting for Roman and Oscar's romance since it became clear they were flirting in the earlier books and I wasn't disappointed.

There's some angsty but not loads, a wee bit of drama, some gorgeous emotional gestures and plenty of great sex when ended.

I liked how they both were tentatively reaching out for more in the relationship but didn't know quite how to do it and I liked that there was no dramady for the sake of it.

There's also a fair bit of humour in this one and we get a good glimpse at all the already hooked up Significant Brothers from earlier books and a few hints at who's story is coming next.

Pure and absolute nonesense!!

Borrowed from Kindle Unlimited.

I will always state when I borrowed something from Kindle Unlimited and whether I purchased it afterward or not! Why? Well, if I've borrowed something from KU, it - by default - means I am very unsure of either the author (if that author is new to me) or that specific book (in general)! I ADORE purchasing and owning my books, BUT for books or authors I'm unsure of, KU is a phenomenal way to try before committing!
Regardless, it means I'm very much on the fence, for whatever reason!
I'll highlight the outcome either way ... I'll either be glad it was on KU so I could give it back, or I'll have ADORED it and will decided to purchase right after borrowing :-)!!
I think it's a nice way to keep track; it might help someone else who's on the fence!

2.5-3 stars

out of the three books i have read so far, this one is my least favorite.

I think that their lack of communication really annoyed me. if they just took the few seconds to talk instead of assume they would have been way better off.

but honestly i have been looking forward to Dustin's book next so hopefully there is some good crime up in here since he is a forensic investigator!

Ps. the box set of the Significant Brothers on audible is on sale for a few more days for less than $10, that is what i am listening to, so i would recommend it! Also because Greg Boudreaux is the narrator, that in itself is the selling point!

This was a great story about two "slick" hook-up artists who are completely clueless when it comes to actual relationships, even though that is what they are both really looking for in life. Roman and Oscar are perfect for each other. And I love the Significant Brothers and the roles they play in each others' lives. Plus there was the added benefit of Greg Boudreaux's smooth narration, which is ALWAYS a treat!

Not even the amazingly talented narrator, Greg Boudreaux, could save this one. Despite this not being a long story (thank goodness), trudging through this still felt like an eternity.

It was so boring, our main pair Oscar & Roman dragged their heels with EVERYTHING. From the progression of their relationship, to their drama at work (which was the most interesting part of the story), to telling each other basic updates & opinions, to even the dialogue itself. Neither of them could string together a complete thought to save their lives, and there were so many “UMM’S” & “UHH’S” in their lines it made the pace even more unbelievably slow.

I felt zero chemistry with these two, which is a shame because they seemed like an interesting match when they met in the last book. Despite them repeatedly acknowledging their faults and insecurities with each other, nothing changes and decent communication is absent for like 90 percent of the story. All of their scenes to some degree include them tiptoeing around each other’s moods. One is always afraid of spooking the other with any TINY slip of genuine feeling, as if constantly walking on eggshells is supposed to be cutesy and not totally stressful and annoying. It’s established that they want to be in a real relationship pretty early on…but when Roman FINALLY confesses that to Oscar, his response is basically an: “Oh, I’ll think about it.” The author couldn’t have portrayed it in a more flaccid way if they tried. This lack of enthusiasm and abundance of skittishness is a problem that persists almost to the very end…seriously…there are 30 chapters, and it takes until around chapter 28 for one of them to finally get their head out of their ass and do something that cements this bore of a relationship.

So far the books of the series have been the definition of mid—with this one being the unfortunate terrible exception—but I heard that the next half of the series gets better. So I’ll stick with it, and hopefully it does.

Not a book you want to miss

E. Davies always delivers a fantastic love story. Fun and flirty dynamic characters that draw you in. Two men trying out something new and before they realize it they are fully involved. Just so much fun to watch them stumble into love. Without getting in their own too much they developed into a strong and supportive team. Not to mention the sexy factor is amazing. You will giggle just as often as you gasp.

This series is just happy, fluffy, fun, goodness. Oscar and Roman had instant chemistry when they met earlier series, so I was definitely looking forward to their story. The chemistry is still there, but there’s so much more than that to their story! Each of them is so relationship adverse that they can be complete dummies about what’s happening between them, but they do eventually figure it out and make a wonderful couple.

I love the Significant Brothers series. The first two were great as well as this one. They seem to get better. I love how Mr. Davies introduce previous characters into this book; it felt like meeting old friends again. Slick is very entertaining and enjoyable read. Roman and Oscar epitomized the word "slick" with their hook-ups in every port. I thought it was good how the miscommunication kept coming up between two "slick" individuals that had the hookup routine down pat; yet clueless on "dating" and having a "relationship". I can not wait for the next one in the series.

Slick is the third book in the Significant Brothers series by E. Davies. This is my favorite book in the series so far. I loved Roman and Oscar. Roman and Oscar have great chemistry and I love that Oscar is a dancer. I love books about dancers and so this made the book even better for me. And when Oscar gets injured and needs a place to stay, Roman is there to help out with a free guest bedroom. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I bought it cause I loved it so much.

Ahh, the Pilot and the Dancer.
This so far has been my least favorite couple I like Roman and love what he does in the book.
I think Oscar’s character was getting my nerves a little it could have been the tone the narrator used for his voice but either way. His character isn’t for me now do I like that they got together heck yes they both deserve to be happy.
On to the next!

Other than Oscar's sort of ex & Roman's homophobic (maybe) co-pilot, this was a relatively sweet low angst read. The angst was their own doing. Guys you really need to open your mouths & have a discussion instead of internalizing it all.

Book 3 in this great series is about Roman the airline pilot and Oscar the dancer. Both have a history of love then and leave them. They have no idea how to have a relationship but together they find their normal. There is interaction with all the other significant brothers with updates on existing couples. Off to read the next book.

Yet another amazing E. Davies book! I was really looking forward to Roman and Oscar getting together, because we could feel the attraction in the last book (Grasp). I was not disappointed. Both guys are free spirits and love-em-and-leave-em kind of guys, but we really see that deep down, Roman has always wanted more and Oscar has to come to terms with his dance life changing. Seeing the guys come together and finally communicate what they want was very satisfying. They both had a lot of growing up and soul searching to do, and it was nice to see that it wasn't rushed. Great book! Can't wait to read about the next brothers! Dustin needs some happiness in his life!

Edited to add: I listened to the audiobook version of this and absolutely loved it. The narrator does such a great job with these characters, and I loved reliving their story. I would relisten and reread this series again.

Significant, Indeed

This series is so splendidly constructed, beautifully written, and each book interdependent on the others—and the previous ones in order—that the only justifiable review I can think of is to combine them all into one.

Caveat: I am not kidding that you must read them in order, no matter what the promotions or other reviewers might say. That’s the only way to get the richness of the lives of all six of the Significant Brothers and their eventual intendeds. The great thing about what author Davies has done is include in each book a brief back story of how these six men came together to develop their own family by bonding in high school and staying with each other for another decade through thick and thin.

My only complaint is that some of the covers can lead you to be a bit confused as who is who, but for the big guy is the “brother” in five of them, I think.

All that said, here’s a brief review of each of the tales, each of which I grace with five stars.

Splinter
Nico the ex-astronaut is now a Park Ranger in the Great Smokies, and Deen the jaded rock star is on a hiatus from his infamous debauchery. That they should be thrown together in the forest and no only survive a splinter or two but come together as lovers is a sweet, and sometimes adventurous, tale. This book sets the tone, and introduces us to the other brothers. Nico is quite conflicted about how he lost his career in space, and Deen is getting more and more disillusioned with life on the road. Can Knoxville bring them both down to earth?

Grasp
Maybe the sweetest romance of the books, this one pits the big and sometimes gruff zoo vet Blane against the free spirited and artistic Falcon. They meet at the zoo where Falcon has taken up an artist stance to capture meerkats in action for a series of paintings. Though instantly attracted, both put up physical and emotional barriers until it becomes obvious to friends and families that this is stupid. How their romance progresses is one of the neat stories of the series.

Slick
Roman, the somewhat out international airline pilot, and Oscar, the dynamic and suddenly devastatingly injured classical dancer, run into each other somewhat haphazardly. Very much a one-night stand kind of guy, Roman starts to think a little more domestically (which he’s always longed for) as Oscar starts moving in the opposite direction because they are basically always on the road. How they come together with the help of the brothers, and their own frustrations, is compromised by a jealous jerk in each of their lives. Interesting how they approach the problems and how they are ironed out.

Trace
This one’s MCs are a bit off-the-grid for me, but in the end they seem to fit just as well as the others. Dustin is almost an introvert, which sets him apart from the brothers as much as his physical stature, which is smaller (the cover of this one is very confusing). Leo, on the other hand, is sort of like Nico in the first book—he’s an ex-military (close enough to an astronaut for me), built like a brick outhouse, and trying to find his way after four years in the service. And even though he has (naively and somewhat shockingly) never given much of a thought to his sexuality, his is the only eventual gay-for-you story in the series, and it took me a while to get used to that. The nasty bits of homophobia that dance around this tale are the eventual crises points, but in the end two completely ill-suited men get what they need from the bothers, and each other.

Clutch
This is the conflict-of-interest one wherein brother Tyler, the car racing pro, gets completely wrecked and needs deep physical—if not emotional—therapy. And who would give him that service? Well, openly gay therapist Alec. When they meet all bets are off as they are inflammable to the touch whenever they are near. This leads to a lot of hands-off planning, moist of which doesn’t work until Alec wisely refers Tyler to another therapist. The conflicts don’t end, however, and it takes some kick-butt stuff from the brothers, especially farmer John, whom we get to know here in a sort of prelude to the last book, to get these two together Nice denouement.

Tremble
This one has the best brother IMHO, John, the proprietor of a dude ranch, and the most unconvincing set-up for his get together with Evan. The latter is virtually left at the altar by his seriously nasty, dominant fiancé while Leo (see Trace) is taking their pre-wedding photos at the ranch. John is instantly smitten by the extremely naïve and trusting Evan, and it turns out that John, in his own way, is also naïve and very, very trusting. If you can get past the incongruity of how Evam was dumped and who did it, and wander along with him and John, you might find this one of the better, if not the best, of the series. Which I did.

Have fun with a grand series.

If ever a book was titled aptly, it is this book. All the meanings of “slick” apply here: smooth, clever, skillful, glossy. Or I could use one word for it: Fantastic.
E. Davies has a writing style that appeals to me very much. They never let me down. It is captivating from the very first until the very last page. The characters are always life-like, the situations recognizable, and the feelings palpable. The chemistry is sizzling hot and lights up my Kindle.
Commercial pilot, Roman, and ballet dancer, Oscar, find their happily ever after in a charming, feel-good love story. Sometimes funny and quirky, sometimes sweet and cute, a lot of times hot and sexy. So you get the best of all.
They put the horse before the cart when Oscar hurts his knee and Roman offers him a place to recover. So, instead of dating first, they are living together. Living together doesn’t mean you know each other. That makes for some awkward encounters and miscommunications. Their journey together is bumpy and rocky. Not in the least because of bigoted colleagues and jealous ex-hookups/co-dancers.
This is the third book in the Significant Brothers series but can be read as a stand-alone. I don’t recommend it, though, as in this book the other brothers make a very welcome appearance. I always love series when the characters are featured in the other books as well. I love reading about their lives after they found each other. And in this book, I got exactly that.
This is another winner by E. Davies.

Another wonderful addition to the series.

This time we're following Roman and Oscar as they navigate their fledgling relationship.

Roman is a pilot and flies all over the world, spending long stretches of time away from home so keeping relationships is hard. Much better to stick to one-night stands, though Roman secretly yearns for a husband and a home, maybe with a yard with a white picket fence and a dog to run around in it.

Enter Oscar, a dancer that Roman hooks up with. They have a scorching hot time together but then Oscar gets injured and Roman offers his guest room for him to recuperate in. And the sort-of-friends-with-additional-benefits arrangements starts to look like a bit more. Of course they both kinda freak out about it because FEELINGS but with a little help from their well-meaning but meddling group of near-brothers and best friends the boys get to their happy ending.

I really adored Roman here. His not-so-secret wish to find a husband and settle down was so sweet. Also lovely to see how the previous couples are woven into the larger story which flows in between and around the main couple in each book.

It's a rich and varied cast of characters which I am very very much looking forward to reading more about.

Another great book in the Significant Brothers series! I have been looking forward to Roman and Oscar's story ever since it was hinted about in the previous book and I worried that their friends would cause them a lot of drama but they don't. Roman and Oscar are beautiful together and their relationship is such a sweet build from just chemistry (or what they assume is just chemistry) to something that is so very much more. These two had to learn how to communicate with each other but there wasn't a bunch of unnecessary drama because they would quickly fix their little oopsies and find their way into each other's arms. I like how E. Davies always adds that little something that people deal with in everyday life and shows how to handle it, like Roman's issue with his co-worker who I wanted to throttle. And then you have Oscar who is thrown a serious curve ball in his life plans but he learns to overcome it and find a different way to be who he wants to be despite his "ex" being a complete and utter jerk face. Overall the story has low angst and lots of sweet moments, all wonderfully and masterfully narrated by Greg Boudreaux! I'm definitely looking forward to the stories for the rest of the Significant Brothers!

I received this audiobook as an ARC for review. This is not my first book by E. Davies, in fact I have read/listened to many of E. Davies’ books. I really enjoyed book one in this series as an audiobook and was excited to hear more from the Significant Brothers Series.

Roman and Oscar and have a one-night stand and multiple friends in common. Soon that one-night stand turns into wanting more on each side, with the lack of communication on both their parts. Roman a pilot. Oscar’s a dancer who’s hurt and resting up in Roman’s couch. Both have jobs that require a lot of travel which really play a role in their relationship woes, and lack of communication.

This series is such a good one, E. Davies is a fun writer that really draws you in. He pulls you into the story and makes you want more. The main characters are once you want to root for.

I’ve said this before and I will say this again (...or every time); Greg Boudreaux is an awesome narrator. He’s easy to listen to and pulls you into the story, draws you into the characters. Also, I do listen to my audiobooks at 1.2x speed or higher, it doesn’t lose anything in the story, I just have always listened to my audiobooks at a higher speed.

Two passionate, driven, beautiful men discover love and possibilities in this awesome story. Story is so well written with wonderful character development, interjected with humor, low angst, and some really steamy encounters. i love these two complex but adorable men! Driven to pursue their dreams and then learning how to live with new realities and finding new dreams. This book is packed with so many heartfelt moments that you will not want to miss one page
.
Oscar and Roman were so well developed that i felt i knew them and was cheering for them to let down their guard with each other. Both men have created an exterior that keeps them from getting hurt, however inside they are vulnerable and good men. Life and fate bring them together initially through friends. I really loved watching them getting to the point were they wise enough to eventually learn to ask for what they really wanted.

i really enjoyed seeing their circle of friends that we met in books one and two. This book can be read as a stand alone, however you will find it so much richer if you read the first two. Highly recommend!

Roman and Oscars book

We met these guys briefly in book 2 and finally they get their own book.
Whilst both in town they hook up. Roman being a long haul pilot is away a lot, Oscar being a dancer is also around the world so hasn't got a base at home.

After an accident leaving the dance studios, Oscar has to leave the dancing world for 6 weeks minimum, in the world of high-end dancers, this is a life sentence. He heads back to his hometown to stay with his best friend, but that isn't a realistic option, too many stairs.

Roman meets Oscar again on a night out with the significant brothers, and decide that a hook-up would work again. Will they get together or will it be a like planes that pass in the night, should that be ships.

This is another great book in the series from Ed and again narrated extremely well. Can't wait for the next book.

Audiobook review:
Overall – 5
Story – 5
Performance – 5

Great addition to the series!

Slick is book 3 in the Significant Brothers series but can be read as a standalone with no problem. Greg Boudreaux did another fantastic job with this story; I love listening to his voice.

The dancer and the pilot – an unlikely pair? After Oscar injures his knee, thus preventing him from dancing, Roman offers his spare room while he recuperates. They didn't expect to fall for each other.

Not being able to dance is really hard on Oscar and Roman is being harassed by another pilot at work. Roman's job keeps them separated for days at a time and they aren't doing a very good job of communicating with each other which leads to misunderstandings. I loved it when they finally started talking to each other and the epilogue was great.

I'm really enjoying this series; I look forward to listening to more of the books.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
